Easy Cleaner from Toniarts is free and does as good a job as any. I've used
it for years with no problem. The other tools require care in their use.

We downloaded "registry first aid" from
http://www.rosecitysoftware.com/reg1aid/

and it told us that we got over 1000 incorrect registry entries (Windows
ME). To correct these entries requires buying the program.
Any thoughts about the program?
