I can't fix what you seem to be describing,
but the WinZip 8.0 and above (at least)
will zip a file and send it to my OutlookExpress
as an attachment and open the e-mail program.
This is from a right click menu clicking on the file.
This sounds like it might be a good workaround
or a good alternate...
