Just run it in SAFE MODE.  Works faster, too!!

The best thing to do is to download a program called ENDITALL from PC
World - it's freeware.

This little prog. will stop all background applications running (except
Iexplorer and Sys,tray). This should enable you to do a complete disk scan.
It is best to follow your disk scan with defrag and restart your 'puter
afterwards.

Another tack would be to go into safe mode and do a disk scan from there.
