Jordan,

Point to the column headers and click and drag the mark which divides any
two header name buttons.
Once you have the column spacing set to your preferences, just exit the
Explorer and it should remember your settings next time it opens.

BTW if you click on a header button, it will resort the list based on the
column which you clicked.
