If I remember correctly, notepad.exe is one of the simple programs that
only requires the executable "notepad.exe" and a shortcut pointing to the
full path of executable.
How are you trying to launch notepad? Is it by double clicking a txt
file? Or are you launching by a shortcut? If by a shortcut, the first
question would be "Have you confirmed that the shortcut correctly points to
the new notepad executable?" If launching by pointing to a "txt" file,
then your association need to point with the full path to the
executable. If notepad runs from a floppy you should be able to copy that
same file to your hard drive and point your shortcut to that file. Then in
Windows Explorer, check your "OPEN" action under View-Options-File types -
Edit for the correct path.
If this doesn't work, let us know what happens when you double click the
notepad shortcut. Screen flash? error message? or nothing.
