In the View menu, select "Preview Pane".
If you still can't see it, hover over the bar at the bottom until you see a
double-headed arrow, then drag the bar to the size you desire.

I am using Microsoft Outlook as my mail reader. When I opened the "IN"
box I used to get a second window pane on the lower portion of the
program. In that window I was able to preview the highlighted email
above it. I no longer have the preview window and can't figure how to
get it back.
