They are still called associations. Except now to make them you can go to
windows explorer. There you click on the file, such as a .jpg extension and
highlight it. Then hold down the shift key and right click the same file.
This will bring up the menu with the line open with ... on it. Not doing
this will bring up the regular menu. What will happen next will be a window
opening with all of the registered program in Windows95. They don't have to
be registered with the manufacturer, just the registry. You can scroll
through this list and see if the program you want to open the .jpg is there,
if not you have the option to browse for the file you want to view the .jpg.
As for the program you want to use, IE is often times the default. If you
have another program you can set the association with that program.
