I thought this might be the answer, too.  There *are* a number of Yahoo
cookies in the cookies folder, but I experimented by deleting all cookies
in the folder, and then went to several groups.  Even with the cookies
having been deleted, the messages I had recently viewed were still
displayed in a different color.

I've since discovered that this is just not just a Yahoo issue.  A number of
other websites I use frequently, no longer have the color information about
which links I've previously clicked.
