Here is the place to start http://www.grc.com/stm/shootthemessenger.htm
After that go to control panel/administrative tools/services and check
messenger to see if it is set on automatic, manual, or disabled. If not
disable, right click on messenger and go to properties and set startup type
as disabled.

This should take care of your issue.

Every time we get on lin with this computer, Gateway with Windows XP, we
continue getting small screens (about 4" x 6") that say "Messenger Service"
at the top greyed area. It has a big X in the top right edge. My husband
says to always delete them by hitting the X's. However, there are OK's that
are located at the end of the message that one could hit as well.
We are NEVER interested in these messages, so is there any way that we could
delete them from appearing on our computer?
Thank you so much in advance,
Karen Thacker
