Hello Ruth,

I assume you reinstalled Windows. Was Outlook Express (OE) working correctly
immediately after the reinstall? If it was, you can try reversing any
changes you made to the point it started behaving the way you describe. I
realize that at this point, that's easier said than done. Here are some
things you can check or try.

Do you use other e-mail programs? In OE, go to "Tools" / "Options" and on
the General tab, insure OE is the default Mail handler. If it isn't, the
"Make Default" button will be active. Clicking it will make OE the default.
While you have Options open, go to the "Read" tab and check "Read all
messages in plain text". Don't forget to click "Apply" when you make a
change and "OK" to close. Can you read the complete e-mail in plain text?

Insure your anti-virus program is up to date and in Tools / Options on the
"Security" tab, try changing the "Restricted sites zone" to the "Internet
zone" and uncheck the option "Do not allow attachments to be saved..."

The Internet Explorer icon you mentioned can be associated with a HTML
document or an Internet shortcut (URL). When you click on the attachment
symbol does it take you to the associated Web site? Disconnect from the
Internet and attempt to read the mail offline (File / Work Offline), to
include opening the attachment.

Disable Declude JunkMail and see if that makes a difference. Disable or
uninstall any other programs you installed around the time OE's behavior
changed. Also, if you haven't done so, call support at Information Boulevard
and see if they can offer an explanation. That will probably be fruitless,
but it doesn't cost to check.

Keep notes of any changes you make in case you decide to reverse them later.
Any additional information you can provide will make it easier to arrive at
a cause and/or solution.

Subject: [PCSOFT] Outlook Express

My hard driver crashed a couple of weeks ago, have been working on trying to
get things back to the way we had and liked before, first thing is the
email problems. When we receive email, like from Yahoo weather, ebay
questions, and even junk mail, they are always in an attachment. There will
be some in the words in the normal letter box, but most of it under the
attachment. I know its something I don't have set up right. My husband
checks the email at work and they come normal to him, full view. . the
attachment symbol is not the paper clip, or envelope symbol, it looks more
like a internet explorer symbol.
I sure hope someone can help, just joined today, my first question, and sure
it will not be my last.

Thank you
