1. Benchmarks that I have seen indicate that Vista was about five
percent slower than XP on average. I read this about a year ago, so
Vista may have become better since then.

2. I suggest that you get Vista unless you have a good reason not to,
since it is the operating system of the future. You will probably want
to upgrade sometime, but that is not a sure thing.

3. Of course, Vista is not free form all bugs, etc. now!!!!!!!!!!! It
never will be, nor will XP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are buying a completely new system, then Vista is probably the
way to go. However, some hardware and software will not work with Vista
and will work with XP. For example, my HP computer would not work with
Vista. HP did not have Vista drivers for it and said that they would
not support Vista on that "older" computer. (Not all that old!) My
"Starry Night version 5" software would not work on Vista - I had to
upgrade to version 6. So, if you have a piece of hardware or software
that you want to use, then you need to find out if it will work with
Vista before you make your purchase. Software "should" work with Vista
if it was written to Microsoft Specs, but cowboy programmers may have
cut corners to accomplish some task.
