Thank you - Thank you - Thank you. I have been trying to find a way to change the default Wordpad font for ages.
I ran in to a problem with the instructions, the solution to which may help someone else.
When I followed the instructions to the letter, I could not get wordpad to come up using the shortcut - even if I put the .exe and the "template" in the same startup directory. This is what I finally did....
I saved the "template" and made a shortcut to it, setting the "read-only" property on the blank "template." I just bring up the "template" with my shortcut. If I try to save over it, it won't allow it because it is set to "read-only," so I'm reminded/forced to give it a new name, saving my work as a new document.
(I have my file types set so that ".DOC" always opens with MSWord and ".RTF" always opens with Wordpad).
It works GREAT! Thank you so much.

On my machine, wordpad.exe is in
C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe
I don't remember if it was always there, or if I put it there (I save things like that - and fonts, since MS has a way of losing (via "upgrades") fonts, utilities, etc. that you already paid for once). Some of the fonts that I loved in Win98 mysteriously disappeared when I "upgraded" and now they want $30 for a font that I already had with Win98. Now, I save fonts like gold. But I don't think Wordpad has been deleted, at least from XP, just carefully obscured.
If it isn't there on your machine, I'll be happy to email it to you - its quite small - only 210 kb. And I can zip it if you like.
Question: Does anyone know how to change the DEFAULT font in Wordpad?

The shortcut may have disappeared, but it's unlikely that the program
did.
Search for "Wordpad.exe" and create a shortcut when you find it.
I've heaqrd good things anout Notepad ++, but have never used it:
