Subject: Unusual Win95 Problem: IOSUBSYS

hello mike!

u may be rite, it wud be difficult to customise MSIE4.0 even for a licensed
vendor!
but at the same time some extra proggies/DLL's/VXD's mite have been added to
enchance the original purpose of the CD program, in ur case one can assume
that display drivers may have been updated or changed..!

>I doubt memory is the problem, so I tried copying over the IOSUBSYS
directory

be
>some kind of OLE linking which is still seeing the original Iosubsys

windows may prhaps be doing a low-level access to the direcotry, try
removing it..!
or change the first name...

>Is anybody familiar with this problem? The kids did not have Windows backed
>up, and safe mode has not really helped. Where to begin??

the problem i had is similar to urs, after installing ie4.0 and shutting
down and then restarting again windows mysteriously kept dumping me into
'pure' dos (Command prompt only), sometimes my computer reports that the
boot information has been lost and halts there.. i seriosuly doubt a virus
but the problem may be windows trying buggy access to my system files...
neway i re-installed win95 over the current installation (win95+ie4.0) and
the problem sorted itself out and whats more i didnt lose ne of the fancy
stuff that ie provided me with..
i suggest u do the same.. altho at the end of the installation u may recieve
some nasty error msgs but ignore them...!

regards,
Kunal
