<<PC Mag says that it is important to install SP2>>

Most of the best informed opinions I've seen so far say only proceed with
the utmost caution with SP2.

At least make a restore point just before you install it, so that you can
go back if need be.

All of Microsoft's history indicates that the first version of anything
will contain bugs and will eventually be patched. SP2 is no exception.

Unless there are very compelling reasons (eg that you have never updated
the basic XP) there is nothing much in SP2 that would make me want to
update a system that is now behaving perfectly well.

Leave it to the experts to iron out the bugs first, don't be in a rush.
Most of the techies I know are waiting
until those who want to be out at the cutting edge report back first.

Me? I'm waiting. Why risk hosing a perfectly good system? And my system's
not even updated beyond SP1. Any so-called "critical" updates I've tried,
except one, have caused more problems than they're worth. And if you don't
use Outlook Express, most of the security holes aren't applicable.

For most people it will be OK, or maybe there'll be a few minor probs to
sort out. But for those not technically inclined, those "minor" probs might
be a real headache.
