In Eudora, and I think it would be similar in most emailers, set the
receiving email filter size to around 50kb.
(It's in tools/options/receiving mail).
This allows all the small stuff in. Anything larger, you only get the
heading of each mail, with a button to click if you later wish to complete
the download for that particular item.
I still use it, even with broadband, as it also helps keep any html junk
out. Unfortunate for my friends who persist in sending formatted mail. I
usually don't bother with it.
