I wanted to make a slight correction to the following post; I stated that "As many as 144 programs have opened at the same time while trying to shut down after freezing." I should have said; As many as 144 windows have opened. Sorry. I felt the correction might help toward finding a solution to the problem

Hello LIST,
I just bought a new System>HP Pav 2800+ AMD Athlon processor - 1 GB DDR SDRAM>OS XP Pro. My problem is that some of my programs 'hang' (Norton, for one) after they are run. The screen freezes and I have a diificult time shutting down the system. I can't get the task manager to come up by pressing ctrl/alt/del and shutting down like I used to do on my other system. As many as 144 programs (no exageration. it shows them accumulated in the task bar) have opened at the same time while I am trying to shut down after freezing. Since there is no reset button on this machine I have to press and hold the power button to shut down. Everything is OK when rebooted. However, If I try to run Norton Anti Virus and Incredimal (a little add on e-mail program that works with OE) the system does the same thing. I've tried uninsta
lling and reinstalling these programs again, to no avail. I have no idea whether or not other programs will hang, since I've only had this computer a week and haven't had time to run all programs on the system. someone suggested it might be my firewall. however, I doubt it since the CPU has a bulilt in firewall. Any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
