Although my computer is a Compaq, not a Dell, it does the same thing, goes
to full power from sleep mode with no apparent programs running. Turns out
that every night at 12:03 is runs a diagnostics test. This was set up
originally when I purchased the computer. After the allotted time, the
computer once again goes back to sleep mode just as it does when I am not
using it. Check with your manufacturer and you may find Dell has a similar
built-in program.
