I too had problems with QuickTime before (QT 4), however, it didn't crash
anything, it just "took over" every video file no matter online or off line
(even those it couldn't handle), I tried fixing, but for some strange
reasons, online (video clip from website eg. www.wwf.com online news) video
refused to give out the controll from QT, and QT itself, was super slowwww
comparing with M$ media player. I was a Netscape user (also I was running
win98) back to that time, so it might be just problem between QT and
netscape.

Since then, I took QT off forever, no QT, and no problem. (and I use IE 5.5
since AOL took over Netscape, no more unstable win98, win2k only)

I don't know how is QT 5 now, but I do not recommend QuickTime for any
thing.

QuickTime video format is possible to view by other media player grogram,
right now I use IrfanView with QuickTime plug-in, it works most of time,
only few video clips (from Harley-Davidson website) I couldn't open with
IrfanView.
