I do this all the time, but I am running Windows 2000 on both machines. If
your computer is not behind a firewall, then you should be able to access
the files by issuing the following command:
net use H: \\196.120.32.15\myshare
This would create a network attached H: drive on your work computer. With
Win95/98/ME, both computers must have the same user name but the passwords
could be different. Also, use the actual IP address and share name for your
home computer. I used the 196.120... simply as an example. "myshare" is the
share name that you set on your home computer, and could be the entire
drive.
There are also products like Norton PC Anywhere that allow remote control of
your computer, but that is not needed to just access files. You could also
install an FTP server on your home computer and then access it via ftp. Look
for ftp server on the shareware sites. Perhaps someone else on this list may
recommend one. Windows 2000 has this built-in so I don't need.
