I would not say that it improves the stability of Win98 against blue screens of death it does  however for me prevent the slow down issue that you were orginally encountering. I do reboot win98 once a week wheather it appears to need it or not. I do think a mem program and there are many good ones out there should always be used with windows if you are going to leave your computer on. I will say this windows stability is a lot like jumbo shirmp.. oxymorons.
