Hi Elizabeth,
I am assuming that since your computer is only 6 months old that you are
probably running Windows98 SE. Microsoft has acknowledged that there exists
a shutdown issue with this version of Windows. There is a fix for this at
the Windows Update site. Look for "Windows98 second edition shutdown
supplement".
