Hi Diane
I haven't used Win9X for a while...so I may be wrong, but I
seem to recall that this setting is in the file C:\MSDOS.SYS.
(It's a text file that you can read and change using Notepad.)
Right click on MSDOS.SYS and choose "Properties" from the menu.
Remove the check mark from "Read Only" so that you can make a
change to the file.
Open Notepad and then open MSDOS.SYS. (Or you can right click
on MSDOS.SYS and use "Open with" to pick Notepad.)
Find the line
Logo=1
Change the 1 to 0 and save your change before closing Notepad.
After you have done the change, right click MSDOS.SYS again,
choose "Properties", and replace the check mark in "Read Only".
Here's an easier way...although it means installing a program.
There is a free program called X-Setup which is like Tweakui
(but much more powerful) that lets you get rid of the Logo...and
will let you tweak hundreds of other settings. You can download
X-setup by going to <http://www.xteq.com/downloads/index.mv#xset>
and clicking on one of the many download links.
Like Tweakui, after you install X-Setup it will appear as
an applet in Control Panel. If you do install X-Setup, open
its Control Panel applet, click on "System" (at the bottom of the
X-Setup window), then "Windows 95/98 Boot Options" (again, at
the bottom), and finally "General Options". Remove the checkmark
from "Display Windows Logo While Booting".
X-Setup is a truly great utility.
Regards,
Bill
