I have Win98.
About half a year ago, I removed NetBIOS protocol.
I don't need it, and I prefer not to use Microsoft's "private" standards over
the Internet.
I read somewhere (don't remember where) that sometimes the removal
of the NetBIOS causes that DUN no longer saves passwords. I
presonally never understood what's between the two (as I read about the
NetBIOS protocol and it seems that it has nothing that refers to DUN
passwords, in such a manner.
Anyway, after I removed NetBIOS, to my surprise, I still had my DUN
password saved, and I could even change it and resave it.
This was true for about 6 months without a problem, but recently I
decided to change my host name in the TCP protocol.
To my second surprise, since I did it, I can no longer save my DUN
password.
All the programs that are mentioned here, are the original ones from
Win98 CD.
Any suggestion as to explain what could make the difference, and how
to restore the situatuion that I had before the TCP host name change (I
tried to change the name back but it didn't help).
Can anyone clarify the picture?
Thanks,
Uzi
