My conclusion about Zone Alarm being the problem is based on my not having
any page timeout problem till I installed it. After installing ZA, I have
had quite a few such incidents.
I do have a hardware router with a firewall activated already, so there is
some degree of protection. My reason for wanting ZA was to detect any
outgoing traffic that I may not be aware of. ZA already caught several such
connections - they were not malicious, but neither did they need to be
there. I could determine which program did it and disable it accordingly.
I removed ZA and no more timeout problems. To confirm all this, I guess I
should re-install ZA and see if the problems show up again. Incidentally, I
primarily use FireFox 1.1 as my browser.

How do you know Zone Alarm is causing this problem?
Sounds like a conflict with ZA and another program (not necessarily your
browser). All my friends have WinXP and Zone Alarm (I turned many of them on
to ZA) and they have no problems like yours.
If you can afford it and don't have a router, get one (like a LinkSys). I
got mine for $30.00 after rebates. Couple a router with the built-in XP
firewall protection and you will be better off than with ZA alone.
