Sorry, I'd deleted the original questions before the answer hit to 2
different questions/comments I saw in this discussion but here's statement
of the problem and solutions. HTH

1. Word Format Codes similar to WP Show Codes

While you can't edit the "codes" in the display like WP you can at
least see all the
    formatting applied if you :

    a: Click Help
    b. Select ?What's This?
    c. Now click in the paragraph in question. An info box appears
telling you the paragraph and font formatting in the selected
paragraph

2. Unexpected formatting on cut'n'paste - Formatting code is carried in the
paragraph mark. Click on the paragraph icon to show the marks if you need
to see them to copy them

Cut'n'Paste to carry formatting:
With markers on you can select through the mark to be sure you carry the
formatting code with the selection . If you're not going all the way
through the paragraph mark for the selection (i.e. - middle of paragraph or
some such), try Paste Special, Formatted Text in the target.

Cut'n'Paste no formatting
For those occasions you want the pasted text to assume the format of the
surrounding text, use Paste Special, Unformatted Text.
