Not in form has it was or is in case of date is in Altavista.
Date range is only from current date. I need sometimes
data what was published is some period what could be
more than year ago. Google limits 3 or 6 moths or year
from today. Boolean expressions of course exists but
not so has it was in Altavista. Compared to Altavista
Google limited - I want to say that there was possible
to build more complicated expressions in Altavista.
But I must admit that it is rarely needed by me and
most users never need such expressions even if they
know how to do that - not everyone have learned
Boolean algebra.
Synonymous and now also different word forms are good
features of Google - one of what makes it the best. I need
other search engines few times in week when I use Google
many times a day. Google simple search page is
my browsers startpage.
