Paul,

I am assuming that you want to use something that is free.

On the helpdesk that I work on, we go for the overkill method and use Yahoo!
Messenger, http://im.yahoo.com. Not only does that keep us in contact with
each other while we're on the phone but it also allows people in the field
(and others :-)) to contact us as well.

For a no frills solution, you might try running WinPopup on each machine. To
get to the program, click on START, RUN, type WINPOPUP and click on OK. Each
machine has to have this running in memory in order to send and receive
messages. WinPopup is a part of Windows 9x.

I hope that helps.
