XP home is not suitable for him, go for Pro.
MS site has more info, here is a short list:
Pro: 1) security is much better than home. eg in Pro, you can setup user
account like in win2k , and there are many different account types you can
build, in Home, only normal user and admin are available, on other account
and you can't build customs account either.  2) you can encrypt files in
Pro, not in Home 3) network domain support 4) support remote desktop (works
like PC anywhere)

Home: only support peer-to-peer network upto 10 PCs.
