When you set up a PC running Win 98 to boot to DOS as the default
......will your autoexec.bat and con fig.sys files dictate what loads when
you go from DOS mode to windows.....or can you effect this by changing them
immediately prior to loading Windows 98 but without a reboot.
For example....you boot to 98DOS with a full Config.sys and Autoexec.bat
loading mouse , CD ROM drivers...smart drive ....memory manger..etc. Then
you go to windows by executing a batch file rather then typing WIN. The
batch file replaces the current autoexec.bat and config.sys with empty ones
more suited to a 98 GUI and then executes WIN.....the DOS ones are
restored by another batch file when the PC exits Windows and reboots back
to DOS.
Would this work OR once you boot to DOS will Win98 keep whatever has loaded
in the autoexec.bat and config.sys regardless of any changes made
immediately prior to loading Windows.
thanks
