Thanks  Phillip,
When I right click the file and click open  the file with windows the file does play. If I double left click, as I had been doing, the file won't play .
 
I assume that all I have to do is to file associate the nero logoed files with windows media player.

What happens if you right-click one of the files and choose Open
with... Windows media player?
