Hi Judith,
Check into a program called BootIt Next Generation. Fred Langa published a
special issue of his LangaList where he discusses it. Here are links to
both:

Subject: [PCSOFT] System backup software
I have been trying to create a complete system backup on my WinXP SP1 system
for two days. I have 386 mb memory, a Nec DVD RW drive, a 120 GB hard drive
with about 53 gb of programs and data running on a HP Pavillion 9870 PC 1.3
mhz P4 system.
First I ran an anti-virus and spyware check, cleaned the system of junk,
used FixIt to repair any errors and check the drive, and exited all
programs. Then I used Veritas' Simple Backup. It created 8 DVD disks over
some 8 hours. Then it verified each for another 6 or so hours only to
collapse on the 7th disc, reporting that one program had unreadable data.
Today I went through the whole process again. This time the verification
failed on the first disc, reporting unreadable data in a document file.
Then I tried Norton Ghost. It created one CD RW disc, requested another and
refused to go on reporting that each brand new disc did not have enough room
to record the headers.
Do you have any back up software to suggest? I would like to have a backup
that will allow recovery of selected programs/data as well as the entire
system. Or should I invest the time to try again with Simple Backup in safe
mode?
Oh, and now my Eudora will not run. It did before the two backups today.
Now it will not run from Mailwasher, IE, or the start menu. I have not had
the patience to reinstall, reregister, and set it up again.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
