John,
Ignore Windows attempts to find the nearest match. What it finds will have
no relation 99.9 % of the time.
What has happened is the uninstall program did not remove an entry to run
the uninstalled software at startup, but did remove the software. The
result being Windows is now looking for software that isn't there anymore.
Look first in the startup folder as described by another user. If it is not
there, then I would recommend using Startup Cop, a free program from PC
Magazine, that will identify all startup entries in the various locations in
the computer. It allows you to disable the particular entry and then delete
it if that resolves the issue on rebooting. Startup Cop is much safer than
editing the registry, unless you are familiar with doing so.

Subject: [PCSOFT] Missing Shortcut-Windows Cannot Find
Importance: High
I installed a WillowRoad screensaver, from a disc, and wanted to get rid of
it, so uninstalled it with the Add/Remove program. Now I get a window that
says " Problem with shortcut--The item 'WillowRd.exe that this shortcut
refers to has been changed or moved. The nearest match, based on size, date
and type is D:/My Download Files\ q240308.exe. Do you want this shortcut to
point to that item?

programs with his honest opinions in this weekly column.
