<<< Hi there Peter:
I downloaded that AutoRun thing, but for the life of me, I cannot find the
one that has this ctfmon.exe on it. The whole thing says,
C:\Windows\System32\ctfmon.exe\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

<<<< Ok --- I formatted my HD today thinking I might have some hidden spyware in
here. However, I never had that ctfmon.exe file on there till I upgraded to
Explorer 7. I did NOT install Office or anything like that. My Win XP CD had
Explorer 6 on it, and when I looked at my Start Up items, it was not on
there, but after I upgraded that Explorer 7, it is now. So guess I am stuck
with
it being in the Start Up. Harriet>>>
Hi,
(1) click start/run.. type "regedit" (without quotes)/ok your way out
(2)navigate....<<< HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run>>>>
see if on the RIGHT HAND PANE you have something like...
CTFMON.EXE=C:\WINDOWS\System32\ctfmon.exe"
DO NOT DO ANYTHING FURTHER. SIMPLY RECOLLAPSE ALL THE ENTRIES/ EXIT REGEDIT.
POST BACK AND WE WILL SEE IF SOMETHING EMERGES.
good luck in removing unwanted stuff----Venkat
PS:- on a side note i don't think it is necessary to reformat every now and then UNLESS something is really bothering/ hindering your operations seriously.
but i do understand your anxiety...
