Without additional information I am guessing that you are trying to install older Win 95/98 programs that are DOS based on an NT based system like Win 2K/XP?  The programs are apparently incompatible.  What are the programs, what OS's were they designed for, and what OS are you installing on? Win XP has options for running some programs the old fashioned way.
