There is another possibility here.  Win 95 cannot properly recognize certain
Intel onboard controllers (82371AB, 82371SB), which leads to problems when
you try to use the secondary controller.  The original poster didn't
specify, but when I added a SparQ drive to my system (on the secondary
controller) it was not recognized as a removable drive.  To make a long
story short, check out Application Note #650 at Intel's page.  It'll explain
the problem and identify a patch.  BTW, Win 98 does not seem to have this
problem.
