Subject: User files on second drive
From: James W. Cooley [log in to unmask]
I thought it over a little more. I moved only the documents folder for
each user and it worked fine.. The other files are system folders and
should remain as they are. It is the user files that were growing beyond
the capacity of HD 1.
Subject: User files on second drive
From: James W. Cooley [log in to unmask]
I bought and installed a second drive for my sons Dell running Windows Xp.
After a Ghost backup I created a Documents and Settings file on the new
drive and planned to move all of the user folders to it. I did this a long
time ago on another machine and it worked fine. Windows treated user files
as before. Now, I moved only one user folder over to the new drive and it
failed to change the links that one gets by hitting Start, Thus, the My
Documents, My Pictures, My Music, etc. do not link to the user files in
the new second drive.,
I moved the files by dragging the user folder with the right key and then
selecting the "move here" from the drop down menu. I do not remember how I
did it before when it worked. I would appreciate any advice. This seems
like a very good way to organize computer files..
