As I understood the Display Properties screen was too big to be seen at
640x480.  If you are running Win95b (if i'm not wrong but Win98 definetly)
or later leave it at 800x600 but in the properties of the video card, on the
General tab there is a check box for "Show setting icons on task bar".
Check that out.  In the systray there will be a small display icon.  Click
on that icon (no matter right or left click) you will be able to change the
resolution and color depth on-the-fly without the hassle.  For Win95a get
PowerToys from MS site or other utility pages.  That should be called
QuickRes, MS has drooped it in Win95a but then included in the next
versions.
