Do you have any "font management" programs on your box such as Adobe Type
Manager Deluxe (not the free one) or BitStream Font Navigator? If you do,
they could have the font installed, but turned "off" which basically means
they are registered with the OS but are not loaded into memory and thus
unavailable for use.

If you do not have a program such as this loaded, then it can be 2 things
(that I have had experience with). You have exceeded the number of fonts
allowable on your system (I am still unsure as to NT's theoretical maximum,
but I try and keep it lower than 500). I have had 1200 on a box before and
never experienced any problems (but it does slow the box down). If this is
the case, simply remove some fonts (not a fun task, as you must go through
and remove the ones you do NOT use frequently one by one...) Or your
registry could have become corrupt (happens more often in 95/98 than in NT
however, as NT is supposed to have a "self-healing registry"), in which
case, I would have to agree with Gateway's suggestion. I would start with
the SP and if that didn't cut it, go for the re-install...

I am having a problem with installing new fonts on a gateway NT 4.0
computer. Every time I attempt to install a few select fonts, it reports
back that the font is already installed on this computer. Now I have
checked with gateway and they suggest reinstalling NT or even just the
sevice pack. I believe both of these answer to be crazy and they are
just trying to cut down on their support time on the phone while
increasing my headache. I have had others tell me that if another
program on the NT station has it as part of its font collection then NT
will report it as a system wide font even though you cannot use it in
other applications. I have been unable to find the offending programing
that may contain the font. Is there anyway to workaround this? I would
appreciate any input on this matter since I need this font for a time
sensitive project I'm working on.
