Office XP has a Fast Search function similar to Fast Find.
The following is from Woody's OFFICE Watch newsletter.

" I had SC go into Word and open up the Search pane (the
easiest way is by clicking the down arrow in the upper
right corner of the task pane and choosing Search). I told
her that it sounded to me like Fast Search had been turned
on. Fast Search, also known as the Indexing Service, is an
Office XP feature that hooks into the operating system to
create indexes of all your files. The indexes make it
easier and faster for Office to search for text inside of
files. (Fast Search is a distant cousin of Find Fast, an
abomination in earlier versions of Office that should be
impaled with a wooden stake. But I digress.)"
