I have a portable 3 gig hard drive that connects to the parallel port of
the IBM 760E (with 3 gig HD) that I want to use for backup. I have tried a
straight copy, and zipping the files but these methods are too slow for the
port. I downloaded a Demo copy of Symantec's Ghost software for trial use.
I set it on FAST compression and it would copy the entire 1+ gig of data
in less than 20 minutes. The documentation stated that the registered copy
had file manager style program which would allow restoring of individual
files in addition to a full disk image.

I thought that I had found the ideal solution for my backups. *But* when I
called to order it, Symantec now will not sell less than a 10 license copy
for 3 figure (US) price. I don't need a single copy that badly.

Has anyone used a software package that will give respectable speed in
copying through a parallel port and will allow recovery of a single file?
I have tried zipping (DOS and WinZip) to the parallel port drive and it
takes forever if the system doesn't run out of resources first. Anything
else out there that will do this job?
