The number and frequency of virus variants seems to have gone up sharply
recently. For a long time, I've had my AV configured to check for updates
every day, and the fact that it is finding them more often than it used to
just tells me that the AV companies are keeping up with the virus creators.
[I work for a college district, so everything that's out there in the wild
tends to show up here. On at least two occasions, I've detected virus
activity on the campus network up to 24 hours before an AV update to
recognize it was available. I do NOT want to wait up to a week to receive
those updates!]
