I do not get your point...
It might just be the machines are all infected with things
that do not show well to the user, -  and from a user standpoint
everything is "just ducky", since with no virus software, or
old definitions everything seems fine...

We can put on our tinfoil hats and paranoia sunglasses and
"pretend" everything is fine, or we can find out by scanning...

Do you ever take their hard drives out and scan them in your
work computer with the newest anti-virus stuff? (I realize a
DDO would prevent this sometimes...)

Side story. I bought a hard drive on EBay, (since I wanted a
somewhat small one and the "budget" was $20 to be "wasted"...)
It came virus infected -- MBR I think... It was something that
would have given them "all sorts" of hard to pin down problems.
I assume that is why it was sold, and I was the first to notice
it and do anything about it...
