Someone else mentioned it would work if the --- is on a line by itself. It
did work. Thanks. I also checked out some other symbols. Try this and
you'll see what happens. Hold down the Shift key and press the keys (three
times) on the number keys. You'll get various lines that stretch from margin
to margin. A couple of the keys don't do anything.

First, on my version of Word, I need to type --- on a line by itself to have
the line break appear. This feature is controlled by the AutoText feature.
Check Tools/AutoText options to see if they are enabled on the computers
that don't do the replacement.

When typing text, one can type three hyphens (---) at the end of a line and
Word 2000 will automatically insert a bottom border. We do it at school, but
some computers won't do it (including mine at home). I've searched Word and
used the "Help", but can't find anything that "turns it on." Does anyone
know how to get it to do it?
