Further to my note concerning the free system checks by PC Pitstop and the
possible connection to Aureate, here's a note from Pitstop taken from
today's Langalist for those who don't subscribe to that excellent journal.:
"[We've] put up a page at
http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/AureateCheck.asp that
checks for Advert.DLL automatically, since so many users
have trouble even viewing the DLLs in Windows\System. If the
damned thing is there, it offers a link to an AutoFix that
will rename Advert.DLL to Advert.old. If you rerun the
AutoFix later, you'll be offered the option to name it back
(if you discover that you like your freeware more than you
fear the Aureate "spyware")."
Looks like this site is squeaky-clean after all.
Seems I wasn't the only one concerned.
