Do you use Adaware or some other spyware removal tool?
adaware is a free download at:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Spyware can really slow your computer, cause all kinds of things
are running behind the scenes.
also shutdown any unnecessary programs that are loading at startup.
run "msconfig" and go the the startup tab to see what's loading.
