Robert,
The reason that this happens is not because of a bad hard drive, but rather
because a program is running in the background in your computer. This is
quite a common problem. The easiest way to resolve this is to reboot the
computer. Hit F8 before the "Windows" screen starts and then go to "Safe"
mode. Run scandisk in safe mode. Good Luck!
Regards,
Fred Hahnel

Subject: [PCSOFT] DiskDefragmenter
I have searched your archives and can not find an answer to my problem.
I am running A Gateway 266 with win98, upgraded fromwin95. Recently I
had to have the harddrive wiped and 95/98 reinstalled by a Gateway
technician. Drive C is still drive C. I had had 64 more RAM installed
previous to this. My problem is when I try to run the Disk Defragmenter
it stops after 10% and posts the notice " Drive's contents changed,
restarting" And then proceeds to churn away , doing nothing for hours if
I don't turn it off. I have turned off the virus program and screen
savers. Control Alt Delete shows nothing else running. What do I need to
do to get the program working?
