Hello again,
Thanks for your suggestions. The Matshita ujda750 DVD/CDRW drive works and has not failed; I checked the specs and found, as you said, that it does not write DVDs although it will read them. And I have removed the excess burning programs I tried, in case the one I have was faulty.
So I suppose the next step would be to get an external drive which will burn DVDs. Any clues as to which might be suitable?
Again, thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,
Are you sure this writer also does DVD's? Many DVD/CD drives in laptops
except for fairly new ones had drives that could burn CDR and CDRW but only
read DVD ROM, not burn them.
Try burning to a CDR or CDRW.

My Toshiba Tecra notebook has a Matshita DVD/CDRW CD ROM drive, but when I
tried to burn an ISO file of some 760MB onto a Tevion DVD + RW disc in the
tray, using several free burning progams, including 'Burn4Free', 'DVD
Shrink', and 'ExpressBurn Plus', they all aborted the burn, with messages
such as "medium not present", or "Put a disc in the tray". Does anyone have
an explanation for this refusal to burn, and a solution to the impasse? I'd
be grateful forany insights.
Thanks,
Ron Smith
