Exactly how the files get numbered is going to depend on the software you
use to do the scanning....
I often get sets of image files from others, where the numbering is not
what I want. So I wrote a little perl script that pulls apart the filenames
and builds filenames numbered the way I want, and executes a "rename" on
each file where a change is needed.
It's not great perl code, and it probably doesn;t do everything you'd like
it to. But my point is that this is the kind of problem where a
macro/script facility lets the end user build the functionality they want,
and nobody really cares how neat or efficient the code is.
If you could provide a couple of examples of filenames you're getting now,
and what you'd like, I can pretty quickly tell whether what I've got will
help any.
