Hi Diane,
What it means is that apparently after 30 days the email scan feature
is no longer available and you get prompts to buy the upgrade.
Actually the answer to your question is "yes for both instances".
Initially the email was scanned when it came in (within the 30 days)
If you were to open the email after the 30 days, the email scanner no
longer works.
Having said that,it isn't as bad as it sounds - if opening the email
somehow unleashed a worm or virus,it would still be caught by the
resident scanner that runs in the background.
For more reviews check
http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?cdlPid=10834624
Then scroll down to "All user reviews".
What I don't like is the fact that the 30 day cutoff for email is not
mentioned in the documentation (PDF)-(grisoft site)- however on the
download page it does say in the free version column, that email
scanning is not available in this version.

I have a question about the statement that the updated version of AVG
doesn't scan e-mail after 30 days. Does that mean that 30 days after
you subscribe, your e-mail isn't protected at all, or if you wait 30
days to open an e-mail, AVG won't protect you?
