Just a little info on this thread... I ran ME for quite a while, and AdAware
along with it. As with yours, I had the same symptoms. However,
occasionally, if anything was found, mine would freeze up during the
quarantine process. The progress indicator would go to the top and that is
where everything would stop. After a restart, the quarantined items list
would show that the quarantine was successful. Since then I have upgraded to
XP home, and have now installed SP2 with no problems at all.

I would recommend that you go to
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022-10319876.html
?tag=lst-0-2 and download the newest SE edition. I am using it on two
machines running XP, and one that is still running ME and all work well.
